How to Protect Skin in Winter?

The cold winter months can really dry out and wreak havoc on your skin. Follow these steps to keep your skin strong!
(1). Use a humidifier in your home to stay air most.
(2). Use the right cleanser for your skin. Make sure to use a toner and moisturizer after to restore skins pH levels and skin moisture.
(3). Cut back on very hot showers which dry out skin. Also, start taking hydrating baths. You can dump some oatmeal or some baking soda in the bath for a cheap and easy hydrating bath, or peruse the skin care isle for one of many moisturizing bath products.
(4). Slather on an emollient-rich cream after bathing. (Emollients soothe and soften the skin such as creams and ointments that have a oilier base) If you already have very oily skin, you may want to use something lighter however. Aveeno is a great lotion to keep skin hydrated.
(5). Use sunscreen daily, even if the sun isn’t out. Use a sunscreen the protects against both UVB and UVA rays. And don’t forget your lips, keep SPF containing lip balm with you at all times and stash extras in your purse, locker, desk, diaper bad and/or car.
(6). Exercise. Exercise does more than just get your body in shape. It also increases circulation so your blood can deliver oxygen and nutrients to your skin. It also makes you sweat, flushing out toxins from your body and releases Sebum-your skins natural built in moisturizer.
(7). Take your vitamins. A fatty acid supplement will work wonders for your skin, such as fish oil or flaxseed oil if you want to avoid “fish burps”.

I am an owner of dry skin and there’s nothing worse than dry, itchy skin. In winter, low temperatures, low humidity and strong, harsh winds deplete skin of its natural lipid layer, which keeps the skin from drying out. Do you suggest any super, duper sensitive skin, consider avoiding rinsing your face with tap water, which can contain harsh minerals that are especially drying to the skin?
